India
Zamin, meaing earth or land in Persian or Hindi, are symetrically knotted
carpets woven by Tibetan refugees in India
using vegtable dye colors that are rich and saturated. Wholesale profits for
these carpets benefit the Barakat
non-profit organization. Indo-gabbeh rugs are handcrafted, yet relatively
inexpensive. They are dense long piled rug used by nomads as a mattress. The
charm of the Gabeh is in the simple, brightly colored design often with a
pastoral scene.
