Tent Decorations & Embroidery
Tent bands and dividers, door surrounds and floor or ground covers are genuine
expressions of tribal culture. Turkmen, Uzbek, Koochi and Balouch tribal groups
have distinctive styles of pile carpets which are developed by specific tribes
such as the Ersari, Tekke, Chodor, Yomud. Bukara, the name of the city often
used to describe a design, is in fact, a market city to where many of the
tribal pieces are brought for sale. Bukara is near Samurkan, at the western end
of the silk road. Embroidery pieces from Uzibekistan, Kazakhastan, Tadjikistan
are sewn with a silk chain stitch and used as room-dividers, bed spreads, table
covers, bread and mirror covers, book covers and decoration.
